Sandpoint-native Mindy Murray opened the doors to Kauai Therapy & Wellness on Kauai, Hawaii, in 2012. Providing her clients revolutionary physical, occupational, massage, yoga therapy and martial arts therapy, she decided the time had come to return home to Sandpoint, where she opened her second location in April of 2018.

“I had a strong desire to return to my roots and give to my community what I know I can—which is great healing therapy services,” she says. “We are so happy to have a clinic home here in Idaho as well as the island of Kauai! What two beautiful places!”

Born in Sandpoint, Mindy and her family left for the Hawaiian Islands when she was 12. More than 30 years later, she would finally return “home” with her own family.

“I brought my hubby (who traded his surfboard for a snowboard), three kids and two dogs back home here,” says Mindy. “We have a home in Sandpoint built on property that has been in my family since the ‘70s. My father owned Ricardo’s Pizza for years, and my mother was an occupational therapist for Panhandle Home Health.”

At Kauai Therapy & Wellness, Mindy is joined by Garrett Fischer, DPT (Dr. of PT); Jessie Hunt, LMT; Kelcee Tomco, LMT; Heidi Disbro, PTA; and Brooke Rieger, Clinic Coordinator.

They offer three services all at one location: physical therapy, occupational therapy and massage therapy. Financial hardship programs are available for those who qualify, and Kauai offers same-day appointments. In most cases, there is no doctor referral required. They have programs for those who do not want to use their insurance due to high deductibles, out-of-state benefits or those who do not have insurance. If you’re looking for a dry needling, medical massage or laser pain session, they invite you to give them a call. “We know how to get you better—faster!" affirms Mindy.

Kauai Therapy and Wellness is also licensed to offer dry needling, a manual therapy that uses very thin needles inserted in your muscle tissue. It is used to stimulate neural, muscular and connective tissues for the management of musculoskeletal conditions, pain and movement-related impairments.

When asked what she finds most rewarding about the work she does, she replied: “That is easy! Connecting with people and seeing them get better and return to their prior level of function with a smile!”

Mindy and her team find it important to give back to the community they call home; the community that has shown them support since first opening their doors to Sandpoint just a little more than one year ago.

After the devastating fire in Downtown Sandpoint that left multiple businesses destroyed, Mindy and her staff held free therapy sessions for firefighters involved in putting out the flames, also donating to help the employees left without work due to the fire. They’ve contributed to the Regeneration Calvary Chapel Youth Mission Trip to Mexico and the Women’s March; have volunteered their chair and sports massage services at various events; and several on the staff volunteer annually for the Festival at Sandpoint. Their massage therapist serves on the PTA at Washington Elementary; and Mindy teaches Sunday School.

At the end of each day, she is fulfilled by the work she and her team are able to accomplish and attributes the success of her business to God. “His hand is in all of this.”
