With a background in health care, Paul Johnson, owner and administrator of AFS, saw a need in the geriatric community—a passion of his. Combined with the dedication of Lara Penrose, RN and Director of Patient Care Services and Rhett Nilson, Director of Therapies, their mission continues to be accomplished through AFS Home Health.

AFS Home Health strives to provide compassionate, quality in-home care within Bonner, Boundary and Kootenai counties, delivering services within 24 hours of receiving a referral. They are also available to those in the community in need of assistance to help find a solution to their problems and needs if they cannot find the help that they need—even when AFS Home Health’s services aren’t necessarily the answer.
Offering both home health and private pay home care and accredited with the Accredited Commission for Health Care, AFS provides physical, occupational and speech therapy, skilled nursing, social work and certified home health aides to Sandpoint, Clark Fork, Bonners Ferry, Priest River, Oldtown, Blanchard, Athol and Coeur d'Alene.

2019 marks AFS Home Health’s eighth year in business, and as Paul says, “We attribute the success of our business to our staff and clinicians. Our clinicians always put our patients and their family’s needs first.”
In addition, the staff finds the work they do truly rewarding. “Our work allows us to positively impact people‘s rehabilitation and health care while enabling them to stay in their homes where they feel most comfortable,” says Lara.
AFS extends their help to the community in other ways as well. The marketing team of Chelsie Ulrich and Caitie Stolz is actively involved in the Sandpoint community and is currently working to become more connected within the Hayden and Coeur d’Alene communities. From volunteering at Sandpoint Area Seniors serving lunch to their participation in Kinderhaven’s Festival of Trees, their dedication to serve the community reaches beyond home health care. In additional, AFS held a very successful food drive, in which they created meal bags for their local patients in need, providing them with food for the holidays. Leftover food items were then donated to a local soup kitchen.
