Full-service interiors and a curated showroom in Sandpoint

Base Camp Design + Elliott Cole Home operate as an integrated design studio shaped by lifestyle and landscape. Founded by Sandpoint native Kate Lyster, the work spans full-service interiors and a curated showroom, delivering homes that feel calm, functional, and carefully planned.

Base Camp Design is where each project begins. As a full-service studio, the work starts with architecture, space planning, and materials, guided by how a client wants to live in their home. Each project is shaped by seasonality, light, and the relationship between indoor spaces and the surrounding landscape—allowing spaces to feel grounded, intuitive, and deeply connected to their setting.

Projects begin with an understanding of a client’s routines, priorities, and pace of life, shaping decisions around layout, materials, and flow.

“I’ve always been interested in the quiet dialogue between nature and the built environment,” Kate says. “A home should harmonize with its surroundings, not compete with them.”

That philosophy guides the studio’s approach. Each project considers how people move through a home, how spaces change with the seasons, and how materials will wear and soften over time. Homes are designed to feel refined but relaxed, elevated without sacrificing ease.

Listening is central to the process. Projects begin with an understanding of a client’s routines, priorities, and pace of life, shaping decisions around layout, materials, and flow. The result is a home that reflects the people who live there and how the home supports the way they live.

Elliott Cole Home was created as a natural extension of that studio work. Located in downtown Sandpoint, the showroom offers a curated selection of furniture, décor, and home goods that translate materials and craftsmanship into everyday sourcing and styling. It serves both full-service clients and the broader community, bringing well-made pieces together in one considered space.

“The creative process becomes tangible in the showroom,” Kate explains. “It allows people to engage with quality and craftsmanship in a way that feels accessible and clear.”

The showroom collection is curated with longevity in mind. Pieces are selected for their craftsmanship, material integrity, and proportion, as well as how they live together over time. Global influences introduce texture and depth, while collaborations with local makers create a stronger connection between the home and the region.

In a place where the surrounding landscape already carries a strong visual presence, the interiors remain intentionally restrained. Natural materials, softened silhouettes, and thoughtful scale allow the home to feel settled rather than staged.

Community plays a meaningful role in both businesses. Collaborating with local artisans, working alongside regional builders, and investing in a thoughtful, career-driven team are all part of Kate’s long-term vision. “Sandpoint shaped my values and my understanding of what home should feel like,” she says. “Supporting this community is inseparable from the work we do.”

“The most timeless spaces aren’t over-designed. They’re intentional, emotionally grounded, and built to support how people actually live.”

After more than two decades in business, Kate’s philosophy has sharpened rather than shifted. Experience has reinforced the importance of restraint, structure, and careful execution. “The most timeless spaces aren’t over-designed. They’re intentional, emotionally grounded, and built to support how people actually live.”

When working with Base Camp Design or curating meaningful pieces through Elliott Cole Home, the goal remains the same: to create homes that are easy to live in and thoughtfully made. The focus is not on making a statement, but on creating spaces that support daily life and age with intention. From there, clients are welcomed into a process shaped by experience, clear structure, and confident decision-making.
