Meeting the Needs of Their Customers

Meeting the Needs of Their Customers

Since 2000, Co-op Energy Propane has been servicing homes and businesses throughout the Boundary and Bonner County areas delivering propane. Locally owned and operated by CO-OP Gas & Supply Company (a farm cooperative based in Sandpoint and serving all of North Idaho), since its launch, Co-Op Energy’s focus has been to provide the community another energy option, competitive prices, better service and local connection.

“The community needed a reliable source of propane energy unaffiliated with any outside corporation,” says Rich Fiellen, Co-op Energy manager. “Co-op Gas & Supply was uniquely positioned to provide this option. Our customers are also our neighbors as well as members of the cooperative in many cases.”

Providing bulk propane sales, deliveries, bottle fill and services for Sandpoint as well as Bonners Ferry, Priest River, Clark Fork and all outlying communities in Bonner and Boundary counties of North Idaho, the mission of Co-op Energy is to provide propane at a level price while providing a high level of customer service. By providing propane and enhanced energy services to members, customers and the general public, this allows Co-op Energy to spread fixed costs among a larger customer base.

For nearly two decades, Co-op Energy has seen continued success because of their excellent customer service, attention to better than competitive pricing and business management during challenging times and seasons. “Because we are local, we can meet the needs of our customers more quickly and efficiently than our competitors,” adds Rich.

One of the unique aspects of the cooperative is that the money generated through Co-op Energy Propane does not leave the community. It stays local through jobs, donations and their support of other local businesses.

When it comes to what Rich and the rest of the staff find most fulfilling about the work and services they provide within the community, it is the local connection. “Because our customers are our neighbors, it is rewarding to both meet them personally and provide them with excellent propane service,” Rich says.

Many Co-op employees are involved in volunteer activities throughout the community. From serving on the board of directors for the Bonner County Historical Museum and Farm Bureau and Bonner County 4-H Leadership, they also support the Bonner and Boundary County Fair, Kinderhaven, Bonner County Food Bank and Boy Scouts, and help in fundraising for Toys for Tots.
