From inception to completion, husband-and-wife duo creates clients’ dream homes By Jillian Chandler
Rob and Denise Krogman, owners of RDK Design and Build, strive to build custom residential homes that stand out from all others. Combined with their in-house custom finishes and furnishings, they can creatively add one-of-a-kind ideas that represent their clients’ unique personalities.
Since childhood, Rob has always had a passion for building. Growing up on a farm, he developed a strong work ethic early on and was always the first to volunteer when any building or carpentry opportunities presented themselves. “I have always known my career would involve building and creating,” he affirms. “I am a hands-on general contractor, and after all these years, years, I still enjoy working hard in the field."
As the daughter of a commercial architect, Denise spent many days with her father at the drafting table, “so designing and building have always been a part of my life,” she reflects. With a strong passion and degrees in fashion and interior design, Denise, an Allied Member of ASID, has actively led complete floor-to-ceiling design projects in Arizona, Colorado, California and Idaho over the last 32 years. She first embarked on her television career in 2005 and co-created and hosted the Lifestyle program Fine Wine and Design. Denise has also designed interior sets for TV commercials and showrooms and has been published in several lifestyle magazines. “Designing and creating are all I have done and all I have ever wanted to do,” she smiles.
Rob and Denise worked in their respective businesses separately for many years—Denise owning another design firm for 24 years (though over 32 years in the business) and Rob running his own construction company for 18 years (with a total of 28 years of experience)—they came together and formed RDK Design and Build—a full-service custom home building and remodeling business—in 2015. With their combined background they bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, talent and passion to every residential and commercial project they are involved with. In spring of 2022, they relocated their business to North Idaho.
Both raised in small Midwestern towns, the pair spent most of their adult lives living in very large cities in Colorado and Arizona—and found themselves yearning for that small community connection again. After visiting Sandpoint for several years, the couple soon realized that Sandpoint had everything they were looking for: a lake, ski mountain, quaint small-town feel, kind people … and a place for their business to continue to thrive. In August of 2021, they purchased a lot in The Idaho Club, officially making the move in April of 2022. They broke ground this past September and are currently building one of their custom designs as their personal residence here in North Idaho.
“Everyone we have met here, personally and professionally, has warmly welcomed us and have given us a great deal of support and kindness,” smiles Denise. “We are proud to be a part of the community and have so much respect for the local businesses and their customer care and loyalty.”
As a design and build company, the Krogmans combine construction and interior design into one streamlined process; guiding their clients through the design and build process; bringing their thoughts, ideas and dreams to life. Having worked in several states during their careers, their project portfolio spans southwest to mountain, traditional to modern, and a blend of everything in between.
“Our design and build delivery method offers homeowners many benefits that add value and confidence to their project, as our design team assists with the timely selection and installation of finishes and fixtures to keep the project on track, and during construction, everything is carefully managed and communicated to make certain that each step runs smoothly and efficiently,” says Denise. “We want their projects to be theirs alone, and we feel our communication from inception to completion with our clients sets us apart from our competition. We have also built strong relationships with our trade partners and have developed much trust and many wonderful friendships with the homeowners.”
Being a husband-wife contractor/design duo, Rob and Denise are in constant communication with each other as well, both paying close attention to the details of each project. In addition, clients receive full-time interior design services at no extra cost when they choose RDK to build or remodel their homes.

“What’s most important is that we both really love what we do. And we are thrilled we get to do it together,” smiles Denise. “Together, we work hard and creatively to ensure our clients also love what we have done for them. The true reward is in their excitement and happiness when the project is complete.”
